As someone who has a Masters degree in Political Science, with an emphasis on gender theory/equality, I cannot stay quiet with what is happening in our country; I've studied the history of politics in this country and abroad and what I'm seeing is a very scary repeat of the history of fascism. I'm deeply saddened and frankly worried about our future, particularly those of our children and grandchildren. I won't stay quiet and not speak out, and as an artist I feel I have a platform to express my worries and those of others who may not be able to reach as many people as I can.
You will see more politically oriented art from me, including my new EMPOWERED collection to empower women to speak up and know that we all have the same human rights, no matter our gender, our race, religion, sexual orientation...all of us are human and deserve to be treated with the same respect and kindness. I will not idly stand by and not speak out, this is too important for all of us and our rights to live our lives without fear of negative consequences because of how we were born and or/our choices. We don't have to agree on everything, but I urge all of you to be aware of the dangers of looking the other way, please stay vigilant and not let the new U.S. administration divide us and take away our rights. When one groups rights are diminished (ie media at this very moment), threatened, or taken away, it is only a matter of time before more and more people's rights are at risk. We cannot let that happen; WE ARE THE PEOPLE...this is OUR country, so let's stand together in solidarity as a symbol of human rights for the world. Feel free to share the image, and this post, on Twitter, Facebok, Reddit, etc. to show you are empowered to resist any threat to your rights!
